Skills & Tools

Creative Writing

I am an exacting and fundamentally sound copywriter and proofreader whose editing skills were honed by an award-winning author (my father), who taught me to prioritize lean exposition and a well-constructed progression of information.

Graphic Design

I have 15 years of experience creating graphic design content for web, social media, presentations, annual reports, and promotional print items using Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva.

Video Production

A graduate of Humber College’s Film & Television Production program, I have 15 years of experience with end-to-end video production, shooting, editing and publishing promotional, tutorial, and social media videos using Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro and Clipchamp.

Web Development

In March 2025, I rebuilt Black Girl Hockey Club's website in Squarespace so that it could be migrated from an unstable instance of their WordPress site, and identified and fixed major website indexing issues using Google Search Console. I have experience with WordPress, Squarespace, SharePoint, TikiWiki, Google Ads, Search Engine Optimization, HTML, and CSS, and a working knowledge of JavaScript and PHP.

Social Media Management

I leverage my personal social media presence (13,500+ followers on LinkedIn) to advocate for people who face societal barriers, such as gender and racial discrimination, mental illness, and substance use challenges, often through the lens of sports and recreation. I have managed B2B and non-profit LinkedIn, Facebook, X and Instagram accounts using HootSuite and Buffer.

Internal Communications

I have acted as a full-service internal document manager, laying out and publishing content in a variety of formats - PDF, intranet, web, ebooks, and print - for organizations that have exceedingly high standards for grammar and style, including the Teachers' Retirement Allowances Fund (TRAF), and SOLABS, a software company in the life sciences regulatory industry

Achievements

  • Created the first Instagram account dedicated to women's hockey cards (@womenshockeycards). Since May 2023, I have published 490+ posts and have a 90-day average reach of 250,000+ views from 70,000+ unique accounts.

  • Helped grow Black Girl Hockey Club's LinkedIn following from 190 to 4,800+ (2400%+ increase), connecting them with relevant senior executives at professional leagues and major hockey brands.

  • Provided outreach for support, nomination document creation and design, and social media promotion for campaigns to nominate Hazel McCallion (first professional women’s hockey player & former mayor of Mississauga) and Larry Kwong (first player of Asian descent to play in the NHL) for induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame as Builders.

  • Was the driving force behind the CWHL’s Markham Thunder becoming the first professional women’s hockey team to receive an invitation to meet the Prime Minister on Parliament Hill following their league championship victory (2018 Clarkson Cup). I also helped to secure VIA Rail transportation for the team to and from the event.

  • Conceived of and created a six-page proposal for a joint National Hockey League (NHL)/ Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) Canadian Championship. Discussed the proposal with the commissioner of the CWHL, deputy commissioner of the NHL, CWHL players, and NHL sponsors/partners (Rogers, Canadian Tire, Molson & Honda).

  • Sold a children’s story my father wrote for my sister and me in 1992 to Penguin Random House in 2014. ‘When the Moon Comes’ was published in 2017, was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award, and won The Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award.

Women’s Sports Advocate

People often ask me why I advocate for women in sports. The answer is simple - my sister, Helena, who passed away on April 15, 2006, while on a golf scholarship at the University of West Georgia. I wrote about her and the impact she had on me, here.

I want the stories of professional women’s athletes to reach girls, to inspire girls like my sister to take up a sport and potentially find a new identity and confidence they didn’t think was possible.
